Climate
The climate of the region is tropical. Summers are hot and humid when the
average temperature ranges between 41°C- 25°C. Winters are
pleasant with a average maximum and minimum temperature of 24°C and 10°C.
The area receives an anuual average rainfall of 152 cm.
Best Time to Visit
The best season to visit the park is April to June and November to January.
Kanha National Park is closed to visitors during monsoon from July to
mid-November.
Fees Charged at the Park
Entry fees Rs. 2 for Indians, additional charges for vehicles, cameras,
guides and elephant rides.
Visitation Timings

1.
From 15th November to 15th February - Sunrise to 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm to
sunset.
2. From16th February to 30th April - Sunrise to 12.00 pm and 4.00 pm to
sunset.
3. From 1st May to 30th June - Sunrise to 11.00 am and 5.00 pm to sunset.
About the Park
Kanha National Park is one of the front line wildlife sanctuaries in India.
The park is located in the Mandla District of Madhya Pradesh, amidst the
Banjara and Hallon valleys. Kanha is a combined area of Hallon (250 sq. kms)
and Banjara (300 sq.kms) - the two gave birth to a sanctuary in 1933. In the
year 1955 it became a National Park, with further extension in 1962 and 1970
the area of park extended up to 1,945 sq. kms. The core area of the Kanha
National Park is 940 sq. kms which was created as Tiger Reserve in 1976.
Kanha National Park is situated on the variable height of 450 metres to 900
metres above level, having 250 sq. kms area encircled with Dense Sal
forests, Bamboo thickets, Bahera, Grassy meadows and other forests. Kanha
National Park is only one of the few Tiger reserves in India where you can
easily spot Tigers roaming freely in their natural habitat.

Kanha National Park is rich in wildlife and avian species that enhance the
chances of wildlife viewing.
» Fauna : Kanha National Park is famous all over the
world for Tigers, apart from tigers, some of the popular animals found in
the park include Leopard, Gaur, Sambar, Chausingha, Nilgai, Barking Deer,
Swamp Deer, Black deer, Mouse Deer, Blackbuck, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar,
Langur, Porcupine, Hyena, Jackal, Wild Dog, Bison, Chital, Fox, Jungle Cat,
Hare, Monkey, Mongoose, Python, Monitor Lizards and a variety of snakes.

Avian Species : Kanha is a birdwatcher's paradise, the park is home to
over 300 species of birds. Some of the interesting bird species include Pied
or Marsh Harriers, Storks, Lesser Whistling Teals, Common Teals, Cotton
Teals, Pintails, Pond Herons, Egrets, Peacocks, Pea Fowls, Red Jungle Fowls,
Painted Spur Fowls, Partridges, Quails, Cuckoos, Papihas, Rollers,
Bee-Eaters, Ring Doves, Spotted Parakeets, Green Pigeons, Rock Pigeons,
Hoopoes, Drongos, Warblers, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Finches, Orioles,
Owls, Fly Catchers, Pied Kingfishers, Egrets, Cormorants etc.
Other Attractions
» Kanha Museum : The museum is situated at Kanha
National Park. It depicts attributes and activities of the park and the
tribal culture of Madhya Pradesh.
» Safari : One can hire an authorized guide and trip
the park in his own vehicle. The park also authorities organize the Elephant
Safari into the park. Elephant Safari is the excellent way of experiencing
the real adventure of jungle and it makes the chance of sightings the
wildlife reasonably good.
Where to Stay

Kanha
National Park has several accommodation facilities for tourists. One can
stay at Forest Rest House, Jungle Camp, Log huts etc. The MPSTDC has its log
huts at Kisli named as the 'Bagheera Log Huts' and a Youth Hostel. Besides
this, there are forest rest houses, cabins, privately own resorts and hotels
at Khatia, Mukki and Kisli.
Access
» Air : Nagpur (266 kms) is the nearest airport
which is connected to by domestic flights with Mumbai and other places of
India.
» Rail : The nearest railhead is Jabalpur railway
station, at a distance of 169 kms. Jabalpur has trains from different parts
of the country. From Jabalpur there are buses to reach Kanha National Park.
» Road : Kanha National Park is connected by good
roads with important places of Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India. The
MPSRTC operated buses from Jabalpur to Kanha. Distance of some important
places from Kanha is Mukki (25 kms), Jabalpur (169 kms), Raipur (219 kms),
Nagpur (266 kms) and Khajuraho (445 kms).
Kanha National Park Tour Package
Day 01: Depart by train from Delhi to Jabalpur (travel in air conditioned first/ second class sleeper)
Spend overnight on the train.
Day 02 - 06: Early morning arrive Jabalpur railway station
Transfer to Kanha (170 km - 05hrs driving time approx.) at your resort for five nights. Enjoy your morning and afternoon jeep-safaris and elephant-rides in the Kanha National Park. Spend overnight at the Resort.
Day 07:
Morning depart by surface to Jabalpur railway station to board your train at 1540 hrs (travel in first/ second class air conditioned sleeper) for Delhi. Overnight on board the train.
Day 08: Arrive Delhi at 0720hrs
Transfer to a hotel for day use. Later in the evening transfer to the International airport to connect your flight for your onward destination.
